Old-Fashioned Cooking – Chicken Pot Pie

Using rubber spatula, fold water into flour mixture. Then press down on dough mixture with broad side of spatula until dough sticks together, adding up to 1 tablespoon more cold water if dough will not come together. Shape dough into ball, then flatten into 4-inch-wide disk. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate 30 minutes while preparing pie filling.

Stir in chicken and let it heat through. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Transfer cooked vegetables to bowl with chicken; set aside and keep warm. Heat butter over medium heat in again-empty skillet. When foaming subsides, add flour; cook about 1 minute. Whisk in 2 cups of chicken broth left over from cooking chicken, milk, cream, any accumulated chicken juices, and thyme. Bring to simmer, then continue to simmer until sauce fully thickens, about 1 minute. Season to taste with salt and pepper; stir in sherry.

Apple Dumplings July 12, Mountain Dew Soda. Peel and core apples. Cut each apple into 8 slices each. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan. Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour entire mixture over apples. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top. It is beyond imaginable. Dana in RI. Just — WOW.
